UPSC CSE preliminary Syllabus

SYLLABUS FOR THE PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

NOTE: Candidates are advised to go through the Syllabus published in this Section for the Preliminary Examination, as periodic revision of syllabus has been done in several subjects.
नोट : उम्मीदवारों को सलाह दी है कि वे प्रारंभिक परीक्षा के लिए इस खण्ड में प्रकाशित पाठ्यक्रम का अध्ययन करें ।  क्योंकि कई विषयों के पाठ्यक्रम में समय समय पर परिवर्तन किए गए हैं

              Preliminary Examination.  
         

Paper I.  (200 marks).  Duration : 2 hours

1. Current events of national and international importance.
 राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय महत्व  की सामयिक घटनाएं ।

2. History of India and Indian National Movement.
 भारत का इतिहास और भारतीय राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन ।

3. Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
 भारत एवं विश्व भूगोल - भारत एवं विश्व का प्राकृतिक, सामाजिक, आर्थिक भूगोल ।

4. Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
 भारतीय राजतंत्र और शासन - संविधान, राजनैतिक  प्रणाली, पंचायती राज, लोक नीति, अधिकारों संबंधी मुद्दे, आदि ।

5. Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc. 
आर्थिक और सामाजिक विकास - सतत विकास, गरीबी, समावेशन, जनसांख्यकीय, सामाजिक क्षेत्र में की गई पहला आदि ।

6. General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialization.
पर्यावरणीय पारिस्थितिकी जैव-विविधता और मौसम परिवर्तन संबंधी सामान्य मुद्दे, जिनके लिए विषयगत विशेषज्ञता आवश्यक नहीं है ।

7. General Sciences.
सामान्य विज्ञान ।



Paper II.   (200 marks).  Duration : 2 hours

1. Comprehension;
बोधगम्यता ।

2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
संचार कौशल साहित अंतर - वैयक्तिक कौशल ।

3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability;
तार्किक कौशल एवं विश्लेषणात्मक क्षमता ।

4. Decision making and problem solving;
 निर्णय लेना और समस्या समाधान ।

5. General mental ability;
 सामान्य मानसिक  योग्यता

6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level). Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level);
 आधारभूत संख्यानन (संख्याएं और उनके संबंध विस्तार-क्रम आदि ) ( दसवीं कक्षा का स्तर ) आंकड़ों का निर्वाचन ( चार्ट, ग्राफ तालिका, आंकड़ों की पर्याप्तता आदि - दसवीं कक्षा का स्तर )

Note 1: Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
टिप्पणी 1: सिविल सेवा प्रारंभिक परीक्षा का सामान्य अध्ययन प्रश्न पत्र - ll अहर्क प्रश्न पत्र होगा जिसके लिए न्यूनतम 33%  अहर्क अंक  निर्धारित किए गये हैं ।

Note 2 : The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
टिप्पणी 2: प्रश्न बहुविकल्पी, वस्तुनिष्ठ प्रकार के होंगे ।

Note 3 : It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination.
टिप्पणी 3 : मूल्यांकन के प्रयोजन से उम्मीदवार के लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि वह सिविल सेवा (प्रारंभिक) परीक्षा के दोनों पेपरों में सम्मिलित हो, यदि कोई उम्मीदवार सिविल सेवा (प्रारंभिक) परीक्षा के दोनों पेपरों में सम्मिलित नहीं होता है तब उसे अयोग्य ठहराया जाएगा।

I did value addition from multiple sources so as to get an edge in my answers: I referred to copies of toppers of the respective tests that I attempted during my mains ...
