What are the effects of Left Wing Extremism (LWE)?

1) Frequent skirmishes have affected the security forces.

2) It has left many tribal civilians caught in the crossfire.

3) Human rights‘ violations were reported in naxal prone areas.

4) It has added to the alienation among the poor in these areas.

5) It also has its effect on the government exchequer.

6) LWE widened the backwardness in terms of social and economic development.

7) It affected the democratic setup by hindering the elections.

How can the issue be tackled?

1) Empowerment of tribal people and civil society activists to promote peace in these areas.

2) Expansion of welfare and rights paradigms to limit the movement.

3) Surrendered LWE cadre should be used for intelligence collection to the maximum possible.

4) The trade in minor forest produce needs a closer look in Maoist-affected areas to break the contractor-Maoist nexus.

5) Hence, the country‘s best weapon against ultras is extending the welfare state to areas it hasn‘t quite reached.
