CSE Mains 2021 Experience explained by

Rahul Chavan, IPS'20

UPSC CSE'19 AIR 109.

General studies paper 2

How I attempted : Started with 15 markers , first IR (2Q), then social issue (3Q), and last polity (5Q).Then attempted 10 marker from 1 to 10 .

Analysis:- Some 15 marker tricky questions

Q 13 - about notion of right to equality .. difficult to write more than 4 specific points ..so very general answer ..

Q 14 - Difficult to remember exact article of legislative council (Art169) ..even while writing it became very general answer ..

Q11 - Tricky in the sense , Q is  demanding answer in  support of CBI's jurisdiction over state cases , so they will check inclination of individual ( even if you feel CBI is politicised ..you can't write here ) ..

Apart from these 3 Qs , other Qs were attemptable and easy to moderate

Some 10 marker tricky questions

Q1 - On constitutional morality .. difficult question..Need beforehand preparation.

Q3- On 14 FC - Few people knew exact recommendations..so most of the people have written very general answer ..

Q7- On "Earn while you learn" scheme ..Specifics missing ..mostly general answer ..

Q10 - On USA facing existential threat ..very subjective statement but one need to write answer in support of Q .

Apart from these 4 questions , other Qs were staight forward and easy questions.

How to prepare - Keep resources limited to Laxmikant and CA ..Focus on answer writing ..and revise Laxmikant before mains ( that most people don't ) , For social issues ..do any of good class notes with CA , and for IR ..only CA is enough.

I have scored 168 in paper 1 and 146 in paper 2, making it 314 in total. I did value addition from multiple sources so as to get an edge in my answers: I referred to copies of toppers of the respective tests that I attempted during my mains ...
